Soft and Light!

I decided that I was going to try this home remedy for frizzy hair.

Avocado and eggs.

If you have avocados that you had bought a long time ago and they have kind of turned dark green and black, instead of throwing them out because they look too disgusting to be eaten, you may want to consider using them for your hair.

Instructions:
1) Cut the avocado into half, scoop out the flesh into a bowl.
2) Mash the flesh into a paste.
3) Crack an egg into the paste.
4) Mix it well.

The mixture should look like this in the end.

5) Make sure you give your hair a good wash first.
6) Apply the mixture on your hair.
7) Wait out the 15-minutes required time.

I washed the entire toilet while letting the mixture sit in my hair. As for C, she was seated on a stool in the toilet, humming, singing to herself and ever so occasionally, chatting to me about her day.

8) Finally rinse out the mixture. You do not have to use shampoo on your hair while washing. Do remember to use cold water or risk cooking the egg white in your hair.

Clean out the bath room too as there will be bits of avocado left on the floor.

You may not see the results immediately after the wash. In fact, I was a little sceptical because I felt it took more effort to comb my hair after the wash but this is how my hair is this morning:
:) no frizz! My hair feels light and soft. Cheryl commented that her hair was softer than usual too. I will do a follow-up with this treatment again in 2 weeks.

my little helper

For the longest time, Daddy has been talking about getting one. In fact, we did some intensive research and even went down to their road show several times at Suntec Convention Hall. The last time we were there was last November and we almost made our payment but Daddy, being Daddy, decided that he would need a longer time to consider before committing himself.

We were also eyeing another make and model but because there people who were bringing this machine in were parallel importers, we were told the robot would be speaking in Korean instead of English. So we decided to wait again.

At the recent IT Fair, the first robot was featured and after much consideration, we decided to just get it as we had no idea how long more we would need to wait should we want to stick to our original plans of getting the other model.

I have named my little helper, R. :) and this was him doing his run for the first time around the place.

When we were hunting for furniture for our place, we were conscious of the height between the sofa and the floor because we knew it has to allow the robot to go in easily. No problem here! R could also easily move in and out from under the sofa.

This, however, proved to be a hindrance. The base of the standing fan was a little too much for R to handle and it kept wanting to climb on. So the smart thing to do would be to shift the fan to an area which did not require R to vacuum.

There was a magnetic strip in the box and apparently this strip was all we needed to solve the issue of R mounting the base of the standing fan.

The strip along the circumference of the base of the fan. :)

Would post video soon. :)

The aftermath of just 1 round: R made me look bad; sure made me feel like I hadn't clean my place at all. Haha but seriously, I was extremely pleased that it could pick up so much dust.

Really Good!

I blogged about this some time back but seriously, I can't tell you enough how much I love this! How much we all: Daddy, Cheryl and I love it.

We started taking Really Raw Honey last November and we have never felt better.

We take it nightly before we go to bed and it has become kind of a ritual for us. Daddy was on reservist the previous week and on Thursday, he complained of a bad throat. Of course, the most natural thing to do was to give him some honey and :) yes, the sore throat went away so there. This sweet nectar really works!
But wait! I am letting you in on a piece of good news.
You can now order your stash of honey yourself via this website. :) At $75 per bottle of 1.19kg, this is truly a steal because before the days of Vera Oh, I had to dutifully buy my honey from stores for over $100 for a bottle. So, don't wait! :) Make your orders today!

birds and the bees

C and I take our baths together pretty regularly and on some days, Daddy does the honours. We always use these chances to teach C about our different body parts.

Thankfully for Daddy and I, we aren't shy about our anatomy and will tell C how boys are different from girls. C knows the proper names to the different parts of her body like chest, nipples and so on. Then recently, I was introduced to this wonderful book, "Mummy laid an egg" by Babette Cole.

It's a book about sex education. Well, the book is very funny because it shows how parents often try to make up stories about where babies come from only to find out later that their children already know what the birds and bees are all about. So there parents, be honest with your children and tell them as a matter-of-fact where babies come from and dispense with the shyness. It's always better they hear the truth from parents than for them to learn about it from other undesirable sources.

Another book from the same author you can consider is "Hair in Funny Places". It's a book about puberty. :)

C adores the book! She has been reading it every night besides her Bible Stories.

Looking for this!

If you have this to sell, do contact me. I am willing to pay up to $35 per bottle.

"The No-Cry Discipline Solution"

I came across this article which is exceptionally useful.

I may seem a patient person to many but I have my moments and when I do lose my temper, it really isn't a pretty sight. I know, I can breathe or walk away when such moments arise and all but really, it is easier said than done.

This article really puts some perspective in order. :)

Enjoy!

What Triggers Your Anger?

Family life is complicated and unpredictable. Day-to-day expectations and responsibilities can create angry emotions in both parents and children. No matter how skilled you are at parenting, no matter how wonderful your children are, you cannot eliminate or avoid the unpleasant situations that occur in all families. However, once you understand where the anger comes from you can modify the situation and learn ways to control your reactions, so that anger can occupy a smaller place in your home.

Our children bring us incredible joy. Yet, there are times that they can bring out the anger in us. It is helpful to identify the things that provoke your anger so you can make positive changes in your household.

What sets you off?
Most parents get angry over issues that are insignificant in the grand scheme of life, yet happen on such a regular basis that they become blown out of proportion. Some of the most common parenting issues that trigger anger are whining, temper tantrums, sibling bickering, and non-cooperation. Determine which behaviors most bother you and set about making a plan to correct each problem that sets off your anger.

Notice your hot spots
In addition to triggers, there are “hot spots” in the day when anger more easily rises to the surface. These are typically times when family members are tired, hungry or stressed. These emotions leave us more vulnerable to anger. This can happen in the early morning, before naptime, before meals, or at bedtime. You may also encounter situations when misbehavior increases, and so does your anger: grocery shopping, playdates, or family visits, for example.

Set a plan
Determine if there are things you can do differently to ward off some of the issues that spark your anger. For example, if the morning rush brings stress, you can prepare things the night before: set out clothing, pack lunches, collect shoes. Then create a “morning poster” that outlines the daily routine step-by-step.

If you find that tempers are shorter in the hour before dinner, set out healthy appetizers, enlist the kids’ help in preparing dinner, get the kids involved in a craft activity, or plan an earlier meal time.

Doing things the way you’ve always done them and expecting different results only leaves you frustrated and angry. Instead, identify your anger triggers and take action to change things for the better.

Learn something new
Once you’ve identified a problem, consider several options for solving it. Jot down possible alternatives on paper, or talk it over with another adult. Read through a few parenting books and check the indexes for your topic. Visit an online parenting chat group or posting board. There’s no reason for you to make decisions in a vacuum – I guarantee that the problems you are dealing with are common and there are lots of sources for solutions.

Be flexible
Anger is not something that can be dealt with once and then will go away. Your children grow and change, and new issues appear. From time to time take a fresh look at the issues that create negative emotions in your family and take action to change things for the better.

Let love help
And, finally, at times of anger, hold on to the feeling of love that is the foundation of your relationship with your child. Take time every day to bask in the joy of being a parent. Take time to play, talk and listen. Hug, kiss and cuddle your child often. When you build up this foundation of positive love and emotions you will find yourself less likely to experience intense anger.

Lobang!

Remember my entry on the "wonder drug"?

I blogged about it some time back about how good it was and now, I am kind of blessed to be able to find this really sweet (no pun intended) lady who is able to give me a price which I think is heavenly! I am into my 3rd bottle of this sweet nectar since I started taking in November last year. Now, all of us; Daddy, Cheryl and I take it nightly before we retire. :) Yeah, we love it so much! :)

My colleague, whom I recommended the honey to, and Aunt Angie, who just got a fresh bottle and ordered 1 more, are now addicts and they rave about how sore throats are a thing of the past.

Okay, I usually buy this off the shelves at the discounted price of $102.60 (originally priced at $114) and now I am getting it at a steal of $75! So if you are keen, please drop me a note with your name and email address and I will let you know the details. :)

sweet, sweet nectar!

This is truly a life-saver!

C and I take this every night before we retire and we love it. This fellow saved my throat on numerous occasions and prevented a full-blown sore throat; yeah, those kind that will cost you to lose your voice for several days, accompanied by a ferocious fever and aching back and bones.

I didn't use to take honey but decided that this is definitely a better deal than medicines. Now both C and I are hooked on it. I also realise that the frequency of C getting coughs has decreased tremendously. I was doing some research over the Internet and found other great health benefits of taking this honey regularly.

Will be stocking up soon! :)
