Josiah is always getting C and her peers to bring used bottles and containers to school for craft.

This time round, she had to bring 2 containers of similar sizes to school. Several days ago, she returned with them, all transformed.



One of the containers is now a musical instrument; a shaker while the other has been made into a coin bank.

Upon closer inspection, Daddy and I saw that she had painstakingly tore out pictures from magazines and pasted them in a form of a collage on the exterior and then coated it with lacquer.

Cheryl worked on this for almost 3 weeks and finally, she came back with the art piece.

More craft this evening!

C's weakness: craft! Even if she was engrossed with her Disney channel, once I asked "Craft?" and she would drop everything to come to the room with me. :)

We revisited some of C's old craft books which were left untouched for a long time but she found them kind of cute.

3D faces of animals!

This was really fun to make and it was easy too. C only needed to cut along the lines and fold along the dotted ones.

And she did it. :) The characters could change their costumes and C was all giggly when she saw what misfits the characters turned out to be.

C has been singing this song she learned from her teachers in school. I fell in love with it the very first time she sang it and now, :) I know the lyrics to this song too.

The theme in school is Recycling and several weeks back, C told us that she had to bring some empty cans to school.

This evening, I saw that she had turned one of the empty cans into a snail. :)

Now, I am wondering what else did she make in school.

This is the second week of the new term and this evening, C was particularly excited because she told me, "I have homework to do!" Ha ha! This was because she hadn't had much homework to do in the evenings except for the reading of her log book.

She exclaimed loudly that she is learning number bonds and doing more exercises in class.

For English, C is learning about singular and plural nouns. I also noticed that her handwriting has improved. :)

For Culture, C is taught to care for Earth. She talks about pollution and recycling all the time now. 

Several days ago, I received an email and thought we should be a part of the "Make it Green" initiative.

This German team's primary aim is to reduce our carbon footprint. The Internet is so widely used these days, it is not surprising that a blog with as many as 15 000 visits a month has a carbon dioxide emission of 8LB yearly.

To neutralise this, the team has created buttons "My blog is carbon neutral" so that we can show that we care for our Mother Earth. Just how do they plan to carry out this task? Well, they are planting trees incooperation with the Arbor Day Foundation in Plumas National Forest in Northern California. And we can do our part by supporting this cause. They will plant a tree for every participating blog.

So don't hesitate any longer. Do our part. We only have 1 Earth and it's up to us to do all that we can.

Today is Earth Day and we are all decked out in green. :)

Okay, on a more serious note. I learned something shocking last week and though a week has past, the message hadn't been forgotten.



We always thought that we could save Gaia by simply "Reusing", "Reducing" and "Recycling" and that Mother Earth's greatest enemies were the automobiles and the factories we have on the roads and in our countries. How wrong we were!

I am seriously considering going meatless (at least once a week) to do my part. :)

Apparently, Daddy had great plans for me... .

He wanted to get me one of these cool looking, head turning vehicles so that I could ride myself to work everyday. 

 

Well, it looks simple enough and definitely makes traveling a whole lot easier.

I will definitely love it but one big turn off is... finding a place to park it. I don't trust the people here. They will steal anything and everything and if they can't go off with it, they will probably vandalise it. Surely I can't be blamed because there has been reports about people who travelled around the world on their motor bikes, or bicycles, and made it through the war-torn countries, poverty-stricken folks only to have their means of transportation stolen along Orchard Road in Singapore. Unbelievable! 

Well, owning this little beauty will for now, remain what it is, a wish. I am just happy having Hubby Dearest drive me to work every day. :)

Just what is a staple-free stapler?

Well, it is supposed to be an environmentally-friendly gadget as it doesn't use any staples. Yes, no little metal clasp that prick your fingers when you try to take the papers apart.

It's quite an interesting little thing except it's isn't that little.

This is how it attaches the papers together; it cuts a little flap in the corner, folds the flap back and tucks it into a tiny slit and I will never have to worry about running out of staples.

As long as I didn't have to fasten that many pages, my green clipper works! :)

Cheryl returned from Josiah with something green today.

She said she created a forest and then she showed it to Daddy and me. :)

Well, it is never to early to start to save Gaia.

The large bag folds into this really handy, tiny thingy which I conveniently drop into my bag. :)

I usually will go groceries shopping on my way back after work and on several occasions, (before I collected the bag) I would give the supermarket a miss because I hadn't got any recyclable carriers with me. Either that or I made consecutive trips, one evening after another to get all the things I needed because the bag I carry to work is only this big.

Nowadays, when we go groceries shopping, I make a conscious effort to bring along a carrier to put the stuff and I am also trying to inculcate this in Cheryl. So she knows that small stuff can go into her diaper bag instead of putting them in a plastic bag.

We also try to use both sides of the paper before we decide to dispose them. C is also not using as many disposable diapers now! Hippee! And when we turned on the air condition when we have to, we keep it at a constant temperature of 26 degree celcius where it is not freezing but cool. (Sigh... at work, the air con is always at full blast and Aunt Rina and me are always freezing and wrapped up in our sweaters and only after minutes after we bring up the temperature, someone will immediately tune the temperature down again.)

And yesterday, while we were at Grand Mummy's place, Aunt Di was surfing and she came across some Disney Sing-alongs and this particular one strikes a chord in me because we are into saving Gaia.

Listen to the song (wonderful with the melodious Vanessa Williams) but pay attention to the lyrics more because it is really meaningful especially these days where we think we are the king of the world and masters of the universe.

Think this is cute? Think again...

Honestly, I don't think there should even be vacation trips to the North and South poles even for the super duper rich. Leave these places alone! As much of a cynic that I am, I still wish that C will go on to have her own family and that her children will get to see what snow and penguins look like.

We are into "saving the environment" and here is Cheryl doing her bit.

She absolutely loves this bag and would want to carry it whenever she goes out. But usually, she only makes it to the lift-landing and then turn around and say,"Too heavy, Mummy carry."

We usually visit Grand Daddy and Mummy during the weekends and this weekend was no exception.

C is officially known as "Cheryl, the Contractor" because of Bob, the Builder. She carried her building antics and got Uncle Ben to build her "house". This time, it came complete with a light and a "television". No kidding! I have pictures to prove!

Last Saturday, we wanted roti prata for supper but it was rather late and Grand Mummy was saying that she didn't want to bother Daddy to fetch them all the way back so we decided to eat at a food court near home. We still ended up eating prata but Daddy and I were so not-satisfied with the prata we had. So we instigated Uncle Ben to go for prata again; he had to give Ratatouille and his date with Aunt Diana a miss.

When we reached the place, Grand Daddy saw the crowd from the car, concluded that it must be really good and he announced very loudly to Grand Mummy that she should just "close her eyes and eat" because Grand Mummy has a thing about not eating Indian food.

I must say, we all went back with smiles on our faces. Including C, of course!
