Education is really never complete without learning about responsibility and giving back to society. For her Service in Learning, C and her classmates were fortunate to have been selected to perform for the elderly and teaching them to make simple crafts.
To prepare for this session with the elderly, C and her classmates had to go through courses on how to converse in simple dialects of Hokkien and Cantonese. They were taught to say phrases like "eat", "drink", "how are you?" and at home, C would practise with us.
On Parents' Night some weeks back, I was in her class and saw the craft that they would be teaching the elderly to do as the children had practise working on them in class. At home, C was also always singing the song that was chosen for their performance, "Top of the World".
From C's teacher's updates, we could tell that the children had a wonderful time with the old folks. :)
High tea with the Folks
