Our Wedding... not so long ago

Our Wedding

I was looking at photographs with Cheryl just before she went to bed. I brought out our wedding photographs to show our little girl.

All of a sudden, I was feeling all nostalgic and decided to upload this video. It always brings a smile to my face when I reminisce these times.

Pooh!

Pooh

This is Cheryl latest toy! 2 weeks ago, Cheryl was down with fever and after she recovered, she developed a nasty cough and even had the sniffles. Daddy said he would get her a toy to cheer her up so last Saturday, we went shopping for toys.

Initially, Cheryl was terrified of the walking Pooh but she soon got to love it so much.

You can even see her shaking her body to the music. At one point, she hugged Pooh so tightly, you can see his legs moving wildly below.
Just last night, I was thinking of moving Cheryl to another sleeping position as she was snoring pretty loudly; I thought her nose was blocked or something. But she soon woke up crying and immediately after I carried her, she threw up all over me. I just had my shower but it didn't matter because my hair smelled of her puke.
Daddy came into the room to carry Cheryl while I tried to clean up and Cheryl threw up all over Daddy too. I was thinking, "Oh no! Not fever again!" I was on MC on Monday and was kind of worried that she was ill. Daddy was saying it was good that she vomitted because the phelgm that was so stubbornly lodged in her throat was out.
Cheryl went back to bed after she was clean and thankfully, she was alright.
At least she is enjoying herself with her new toy now!

Building Sand Castles ... Literally!

This year, the staff retreat was a departure from our previous years because we had to gather at East Coast Beach early in the morning.

Some of us were really excited while there were others who weren't as enthusiastic. We spent the whole morning at the beach building sand castles and thereafter, adjorned for lunch at some country club.

By the time we were done on the beach, we were already exhausted from the heat and hunger!

As you can see, I am not particularly keen... I am not a "sun-person" and will definitely melt if I stay too long in the heat. I was pretty upset as I was not really dressed for the occasion; should have gone in slippers and shorts. But thankful, the stylo sun glasses Aunt Rina gave me came in handy.

Aunt Caroline and Rina hard at work building their sand castle. See the tools that Aunt Caroline was so seriously inspecting, I bought a set for Cheryl too. I was thinking that the tools would really be useful when Zinnia, Bernie, Yeva and Cheryl come to the beach.

These pictures were taken after the sweating under the sun. Aunt Kavita and Hafizah enjoying their little chat while I was happily looking at some of the shots that Aunt Rina took of us.

That is the group I was with and our sand castle did not look really good compared to the rest. At least we tried. Honestly, there was a sense of satisfaction because we created something out of nothing.

How-to- ... List

There are many ways of doing certain things but apparently these are some of the most effective methods.

1. How-to-"hugjack"
> Get baby (Cheryl) standing
> Start baby walking to a person waiting at the end of the line
> Person at the end of the line, stretch out your hands to receive baby
> Let baby walk to about mid way
> Walk towards baby to intercept his/ her path
> Hands out-stretched to scoope baby
> Continue walking with baby in arms

And leave Mummy at the end of the line, laughing.

2. How-to-be part of the Game (World Cup session, or any Football match)
> Get baby familiar with lingo used; Goal
> Demonstrate what spectators do when goals are scored; arms up in the air while shouting "Goal!"
> Repeat Step 2
> Watch highlights of goal-scoring moments with baby
> Repeat Step 2 each time a team scores

Cheryl now knows the action and when she is watching highlights of previous matches, she will get all excited and will stare at the TV screen intently. She will make noises just like the spectators do and when a goal is scored, she will put her arms in the air.

3. How-to-play Hide & Seek
> Put baby on the bed
> Have either Daddy or Mummy at the foot of the bed (Usually, it's Daddy)
> Squat so that you are out of baby's view
> Ask baby the phrase "Where is Daddy?" at least thrice while hidden
> Put head up so that baby can see you
> Say "Here!"
> Repeat 3 - 5 as many times as desired

Cheryl loves to play this game and every time she is in the room, she wants to do the hiding. Daddy and Mummy will take turns to position ourselves at different positions on the bed to up the excitement level. Everytime we are at a position she did not anticipate, she will break out in chuckles.

If Daddy gets his way...

If Daddy gets his way, Fathers' Day will be known as "Daddies' Day" just like "Zhong Zhi Jie" for Dumpling Festival, "Yue Bing Jie" for Mid-Autumn Festival.

Fathers' Day came and went without much of a celebration because Cheryl had a house call from the fever bug. Yes, she had been ill since last Friday and her fever came back every now and then. Daddy and I did not really sleep much and it was also because we wanted to watch the World Cup matches. Honestly, our minds weren't on the matches at all.

We spent the entire Saturday morning at KKH because Cheryl threw up and that meant the medicine that were so painstalkingly given to her was out too. It was only after some tests were done and confirmed that she did not have UTI that we came back home.

Now, Daddy is at home because he is ill and had been throwing up.

Both my Babies are ill... I hope this is not an indication that I will be next. I cannot afford to fall ill!

Bumbo again?

I was playing with Cheryl in the room and I decided to put her into her Bumbo again. Half expecting her NOT to fit in it but I was pleasantly surprised!

She could and it was a snug fit too!

This was then when she was 5 months old...

... and this is now, Cheryl at 14 months.

Cheryl is very possessive of her sorting blocks. Everytime she plays with them, she does not allow me to touch them. It was going to be her nap time so I said, "Keep, Keep!"

She would keep the blocks in the container, all right...
... but when she was almost done, she would "talk" to the blocks inside the container as if to conspire with them...
... because the next thing she did was...
...pour all her blocks out again! See that "innocent" look on her face? Then she broke out in gibberish. I think she was telling me, "It's not me! The blocks want to play still!"

Yeah, right Cheryl. Try again!

Burger King

We decided to have lunch at Burger King before proceeding to visit Grandparents. Cheryl of course, had a great time!

She loves the fries. This was not the first time she tasted fries. In the past, our little girl would take dainty bites but now, she has developed this nasty habit of shoving everything into her little mouth. Not very lady-like at all!

Daddy was warning me that she would put the entire piece of fries into her mouth...

And true enough, she did! Much to the amazement of the patrons sitting beside our table.

Daddy gave her a little sip of barley...

but she grabbed the cup from Daddy and tried to drink from the straw herself. The straw, was too long for her, hence she attempted many times.

Cheryl Walking!

Cheryl Walking

Yeah!! I solved the problem!! I was having problem embedding the video in the post but it's not a problem now!

Cheryl's been walking for a while now.

It is Daddy's Birthday!

Daddy turns 30 years old today!

When Cheryl woke up this morning, I told her that Daddy is 30. Daddy quickly added, "Just like Mummy!" Yes, my darling never fails to remind me that I am older. Hee

Mummy got Daddy a shirt, a belt and of course, a birthday card. In the many years that we have known each other, Daddy never fails to receive a birthday card from me. The exception this year is the addition of Cheryl's name on the lovely card.

Mummy = Wallpaper?

Remember my little attempt to "conditioned" Cheryl to kiss us first thing in the morning?

It is working fine, alright... This morning, Cheryl decided that sleep was enough and she woke up at 6am. I carried her to our bed and she conveniently crawled over me to lay down between us. Then she got up and went to Daddy quietly to kiss him on his lips. She moved away to lean on Daddy and then spontaneously crawled up to Daddy again to kiss him on his cheek.

I was waiting for my turn to be kissed but our little girl decided she was done with her kissing and she wanted to play. Hmm... Aunt Colleen read somewhere, some studies said that mummies are really like wallpaper. I did not want to believe it but now I wonder... .

Cheryl, Our Little Prodigy

Cheryl absolutely adores music and she cannot seem to get her hands of the piano. When Uncle Douglas plays the piano, she wants to play along side with him. It takes a lot of concentration power to stay focused and play the right keys when Cheryl is trying to play catch-up.

I was walking around with Aunt Asrina and chanced upon a keyboard. I remembered how Cheryl enjoyed playing on Zinnia's keyboard so I decided to get her one too.

Cheryl was over the top when she saw the keyboard. She was playing with the neighbour's children when I came home but once she saw what I had gotten for her, she ditched her friends immediately!

I have a confession... My camera skills are atrocious! I can't seem to get a sharp picture! What's wrong with me?!?

I took this video when we went to Grand Aunt's place recently. Look at Cheryl and how she pretends to play along side with Uncle Douglas. If her interest stays with her long enough, we may enrol her for music class.

Look at the delight on Cheryl's face! When Douglas was done playing, she asked to be put on the pianist chair. She really looked like a pro.

"He is MY Daddy!"

Cheryl has a habit of waking up close to 7 in the morning but we will still be sleepy and will be trying to go back to bed. I usually pick her up from her cot and put her on our bed.
Today, I realised what a green-eyed monster she is!
Usually when she is on our bed, I will play with her and I will kiss Daddy, in my bid to get her to develop this habit of kissing both of us when she wakes up. She will follow my actions and plant kisses on her Daddy; his face, chest, arms, tummy... whichever part Daddy is exposing at that time.
But this morning, I said, "Cheryl, Mummy kiss Daddy." and I proceeded to kiss Daddy on his cheecks. Our darling, she actually frowned and whimpered in protest! I thought she couldn't be this jealous so I did it again. This time, I got Daddy to be my witness. And true enough, when I kissed Daddy again, our little spark frowned and fussed much to Daddy's amusement.
