We prayed hard for good weather and indeed we were blessed! :)
Our trip to Kota Tinggi started at 5am for us as we headed out to pick up Aunt Joan, Uncle Linus and Keziah. We had thrown this nature trail together in a rather short time and were indeed great to have a lot of our friends come along.
On route to Aunt Sandy's and Uncle Steve's place. Our princess looked chirpy despite waking up at 4 in the morning.
Time check: 6.15 am. The entire convoy had arrived and we soon embarked on our journey.

Our kids and adults alike were happily flolicking in the cool waters. C couldn't wait to get in and was complaining that I couldn't change her into her swimming gear quick enough.
In addition to the waterfall experience we had, we also visited the Crocodile and Ostrich Farms.
We were amazed with how large and strong these reptiles are!
This fellow snapped his jaws at the tour guide who was showing us around.
An interesting fellow here: it's a disabled croc. He was born without a tail. It made me wonder if he was able to survive in the wild. He must be grossly handicapped without it's powerful tail.
We got the chance to get really close to the crocodile albeit a small one. It must have felt so mishandled. Hahaha! But thankfully, this little fellow was very obedient and despite the many change of hands, it remained docile. The kids were really brave to put their tiny hands on it. All except for C who was a little afraid.
The Ostrich Farm:
The largest bird in the world definitely lays the largest egg. C admiring the size of the yolk of an ostrich egg. This egg, when fried, could easily feed 25 people! WOW!

There was a demonstration of how to remove the egg from it's shell.
All of us having a go at the egg! Apparently, an ostrich egg can withstand pressure up to 100kg!

Of course we had to get some souvenirs back. The girls loved the ostrich satay and C enjoyed the kaya that was prepared using ostrich eggs. These eggs are highly recommended because they are high in protein and low in cholesterol.
A trip to Kota Tinggi is never truly complete unless you have gone on the Firefly Cruise.
We got tickets through the Resort we were putting up the night and transport was provided to take us to the jetty.
We all had to put on life jackets before we boarded the ferries.

Here, we were patiently waiting for the boatman to power us out the Johore River.
We were mesmerized by these amazing creatures. They make the trees twinkle like stars and it was really a lesson that Mother Nature offered because C was awe-struck (actually so were Daddy and I) and we "ohh and ahh" along the 45 minute boat ride. The boat man even got us close enough to the trees. A truly amazing experience!

The pool wasn't enough to hold the kids! Aunt Jenny brought them down to a stream and got them to hunt for little fishes in the waters. This is just about as kampong as Singaporean kids can get! :)
C said these were "strawberries"! Hahaha! Well, there is a slight resemblance.
Well, I did say, our trip was a gastronomical one.
We had lots of seafood, naturally and ate like there was no tomorrow!
We had this for breakfast after we cleared the Customs! Delicious and very tasty indeed. :) A fantastic way to start our day!
Lunch was eaten at Sengat Seafood Restaurant but it was a rip off! The food was nothing to rave about. But we made it up by having a sumptuous dinner at New Mui Tou Restaurant.

We tried a different kind of gourmet food!
Stopped by the road to get these little desserts. Not too bad! and they only cost us RM$2 a box of 8 pieces. They were apparently a hit with the locals as well because we saw many cars parked by the side of the road to get their hands on these.
Another seafood lunch before we headed back to Singapore. This time round, we treated ourselves to lobsters and prawns! Yummy!

Thanks for sharing about your trip! It sure sounds a fun and educational one!
Too bad there wasn't videos or photos on the fireflies; though I'm sure the experience can only be felt on the spot.
Hopefully we will get to go such a trip soon too! ^^

can't use the camera on the cruise... need the darkness to be able to see the fireflies. hahaha
tried several times to capture on video but not successful so you have to go there to see it. hehehe
its nice. my girl was very excited and so were us.

the resort is kota rainforest resort. it is like 5 min away from the kota tinggi waterfalls hence it is quite ulu.
you will need to drive out to town for food.
prices are reasonable: for a 3-persons in one bedroom, we paid SGD$200. there is a queen and a single bed in there. bathroom is attached and there is a heater too. but no kettle so you have to walk down to the canteen area to take. no tv in the room of course as well.
