We spent a total of 11 Days in Japan but I will not be blogging about the trip chronologically. Instead, I have categorized our trip into parts: Touring around Tokyo, Mt Fuji, Kyoto, Japan's many themed parks and finally, winding down and our flight back to Singapore.
Traveling on the rail and buses became our mode of transport for our trip because we were doing it ourselves and the planning was tedious, needless to say. I was terrified of getting lost and after hearing stories about how the Japanese do not understand a word of English, I wasn't ready to let my guard down. Besides, we had our children and our friends with us and it was not nice to be unprepared.
Although 11 days seemed like a long time, because it was winter, night came very early at 5 pm so we were pressed for time and had to see all we could before it got too dark and cold.
Some of the places we went to include Chinatown in Yokohama, Odiaba; a man-made island (it was a large place) Asakusa, Tsukiji Wholesale Market, Akihabara, otherwise known as the Electric Street.
I will start with Asakusa and Odiaba. We took the subway to Asakusa and visited the famous Sensijio Temple.
Many shops lined both sides of the street leading up to the temple and our girls couldn't help but stop for a little snack.
The sun was shining brightly but the winds were chilly!
Next, we moved on to our next destination, Odiaba. We took the ferry there and saw some of the sights of Tokyo.
The famous Rainbow Bridge and we even saw the Statue of Liberty. Apparently the pier at Odiaba was intentionally built and designed to resemble Santa Monica and the Golden Gate Bridge.
We went to Decks, a shopping and gaming centre and had lunch at a place which looked like a classroom. It came complete with desks and a blackboard.
Dessert
Then we walked across the road to Venus Fort.
Where a street performer was doing his act. He was very good indeed, as he entertained and roused the crowd.
We even went to a Toyota showroom which featured some of the latest cars.
Getting tickets to go to Shin Yokohama for dinner... we were travelling on the lower deck of the Rainbow bridge because we took the train back. The upper deck was meant for cars and other vehicles.
After like a 10 minutes walk from the station, we arrived at the museum. Yes, it is a musem which sells ramen. But it was the interior of the place that shocked us.
History of ramen: their origins and how they have evolved over the years and throughout the whole of Japan.
The facade of the museum outside did not give us any hint of what to expect when we were indoors actually and it was like we were suddenly teleported to another time.
Nice and delicious ramen!
On our way back to Shinjuku, we boarded the wrong train and got lost. Apparently, we didn't look out for the destination of the train and it took us about 2 hours to get back. By then we were beat.
