It's been a while since C did her writing and that's because I have been busy; busy running errands, arranging for appointments, making phone calls, clearing the house, taking C for her enrichment classes and the list goes on.

And C missed her activity so much that when I told her that we would do it this afternoon, she was literally jumping for joy.

Her many dot-to-dot worksheets are of the Christmas theme and she was overjoyed.

She did some writing and blending of words.

We also practised her rhythm because she doesn't seem to be able to recognise these:

We were out window-shopping and C picked up a really interesting "book". The moment she laid her eyes on it, she knew that she had to get it. So our little girl carried it to me and then patiently told me that she must have it.

Of course it helped that the characters featured were her favourite Dora and friends but what was intriguing was that instead of the normal stories that she usually read, this was done in the style of a theater.

Once we got back, she insisted on playing her new toy.

C has a very imaginative mind and this game suited her to the T. She was able to tell her stories in whatever way she liked. There were many scene changes and they were all different; from space adventure, to the ballroom princessy ones.

We decided to work on the worksheets early today as we have a date with Daddy Dearest in the evening.

We started with the craft work I got for C after we caught the play, "The Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle and C absolutely adored pasting these little things on the board.

Doing the worksheets were a breeze initially...

This piece is a little different. Instead of numbers, they are letters.

This is the difficult worksheet.

Cheryl had to pronounce all the words there phonetically before the activity could be completed. She had to be mindful of the instructions and colour the "right" words before solving the puzzle.

After the difficult worksheets we did, I thought C would want to lay off for a while but no... .

She wanted me to do more with her.

Since we formed words phonetically the last time, we did more of that this time round. We pronounced the words and slowly she was able to figure out what it meant. She also surprised me when she spelt "zebra" on the computer. I gave her the sounds phonetically and she typed the letters on the keyboard and amazingly, she got it! I was thrilled and told Daddy immediately! Haha!

I think her "reading days" will happen soon! :)

C usually does the writing of the alphabet, some dot-to-dot worksheets and that's about it. But she wanted something more and I don't blame her because just writing and coloring can get kind of mundane.

Since we started working on the other worksheets I recently printed, she has been kind of stressed out. Ha ha! She needed more patience and more time to work on the worksheets. She needs to know what her vowels and consonants are and I don't exactly make it easier for her because I get her to articulate the sounds of these vowels. This evening, we formed words phonetically.

By the time we were done, she was all exhausted.

Whenever we take the train, I get anxious.

That's because C has a tendency to charge towards the height chart and attempt to measure herself against it. Then she will announce very loudly and proudly, "See Mummy, how tall am I? I am very tall, right?"

Yes, I know Baby, you are way past the cut-off height of 0.9m and you so need a card to get through the gantry now. So after our outing with Aunt Angie, I finally bought her a own transit card. Now, I don't have to look guilty or behave suspiciously *carry her from afar* .

We have a lot of problems getting C to cover up at night. She has this habit of kicking her blanket off and exposing her tummy. In the past, C often fell ill because of this and then we insisted on her wearing socks to bed.

But sock-wearing only solves part of the problem because C's tummy is still exposed.

When C was younger, I contemplated getting a Grobag but they were costly and couldn't last past 36 months. So I improvised and together with Grand Mummy, we created a different kind of Grobag for C.

C tried it on and loved it! She could even hug her bolster in the "blanket".

It's not as pretty but it does the job of covering her up well and it doesn't cost me $95 (that's what a real Grobag would cost.) And C can use this improvised blanklet till she is a lot older. More importantly, Cheryl was happy with her new "blanket" and became rather possessive over it. She din't want any one else to touch or put it on because she said "Por por made it for CHERYL."

Our little activity tonight was rather fun. C started with her letters as usual and then she did some Math worksheets and drew a snowman.

She has been writing her name for some time now and this time, she wanted me to spell our names for her.

Daddy was asking her why did the letters become larger. Ha ha!

Cheryl did writing for the letters "R" and "S" this evening.

It's the holidays and I know the worksheets that I had printed were running out soon so I did a little surfing and printed more stuff to keep our Precious occupied.

When C saw these new materials I brought back, she was literally bursting with excitement and after we did our usual work, she wanted to start immediately on these new ones.

So we did. Ms Sally was commenting that C has some trouble with her vowels and some of the new worksheets I got for the children focus on vowels and consonants (how apt) so we wasted no time in doing them.

She enjoyed the worksheets a lot and was begging to do more and I had to tear her away. Looks like these are not going to last the entire 6 weeks... .

Daddy and I are both extremely glad and happy that C has adapted well and is making great progress in school. She looks forward to going to school and what more can a parent ask for? I mean, it's only when she is truly enjoying herself that makes her want to go there everyday. She has made some good friends and fostered relationship with her teachers and peers alike.

So like Ms Sally, we hope that the next year will be an even greater one. :)

After almost a break of a week, we got back to doing our writing and drawing.

C is doing "P" and "Q" and it looks like I will have to start printing other materials for her to work on soon.

As she was drawing, she was telling me the story. :)

C's Christmas performance is coming up and we have been practising her piece every night. Some times, she would hurry through the song and often I wonder if she would remember the entire piece to play it out herself. This evening, I caught her reciting the score to herself and playing on the keyboard. To my surprise, she played it through without any mistakes and I was momentarily rooted to the ground. haha!

I urged her to play it again, though this time, she didn't do it as perfectly as the first time. Besides, she didn't know I had the camera turned on, she tends to shy away from the camera and if she had known it was turned on, I wouldn't have been able to get anything.

Guess getting into a routine does make things easier. Now, C will automatically head for her worksheets and activity book and she will even request that we sit down to complete some work before we do our reading.
