Josiah Montessori

Some weeks back, Daddy, Cheryl and I dropped by Josiah to take a look-see and get a general feel of the place.

I must say, Daddy and I were impressed with the kids there. They were well behaved and were extremely friendly. 2 girls from the Kindergarten class saw Cheryl and they immediately ran up to her, while exclaiming "So cute! Look at those chubby cheeks!" (Daddy and I were laughing because if they could see themselves in the mirror, they had chubby cheeks too) and they turned to Cheryl and asked, "Do you want to come to school and join us?" Daddy learned that one of the girls is Japanese and about a year ago when she arrived in Singapore, she did not speak a word of English. But listening to her, I wouldn't had known better if Daddy didn't tell me.

Actually we were feeling a little edgy. We want to start Cheryl because she is just doing nothing at home. We feel it's about time she also learns some good social behaviour and play and interact more with children of her age.

I had other schools in mind like Brighton, (which is too expensive read = $1500 a month but very reputed for its curriculum) Babys' Inc (which is also a childcare centre) and there was MMI at Tampines Mart but they are too far away and Cheryl would have to take public transport.

After some discussion, we decided that instead of spending money on transportation, we should channel that money into her fees so Josiah is the natural choice because it is within walking distance.

But classes for this year are already all filled up and the only vacancies left, which by the way were going fast, are for the next year. So I rushed down as fast as I could and got her registered for next year.
Getting her a place is a load off my mind for now!
Maybe I should be worried, because some mummies have been telling me that their little ones have done this class and that and how good they are or how pressurised the parents feel when they think their children are not up to mark with the other kids in the class. I smile when I hear this because if they had known that Cheryl has attended none of these, I can't imagine the horror on their faces, or what gross thoughts they will have of me!
But you know what? Daddy and I are quite set on Cheryl having a memorable childhood where there is just about the right amount of play too.
