The Negotiator

We always wonder if Cheryl really truly could understand every single word we say and Daddy and I found out that oh yes, she not only can understand what we say, she can also tell us what is on her mind. And this time, we understood her perfectly.

Cheryl climbed up a stool and stood up slowly, balancing herself. When she decided it was enough, (all of but 5 minutes) she stretched out her hands and looked at me.

Cheryl : Mummy 抱抱.
Mummy : Nope, you climbed up on the stool yourself, so you can come down yourself too.
Cheryl : (frown) Cheryl fall down, (touch her head) pain pain.
Mummy : (surprised) Oh, if you stand there any longer, you will really fall. Come down
yourself, slowly.
Cheryl : (squat down on stool, stand up again) No. Mummy 抱抱. Cheryl fall down. (shrug
shoulders, both hands up, palms facing upwards) How? Pain pain. (pout lips)
Mummy : Okay, ask Daddy.

Daddy who was sitting at the computer table, turned around and carried Cheryl down from the stool. Both of us were trying so hard not to laugh.

Then at night, after I gave Cheryl her milk at bed time, I left the room for a while. Daddy and Cheryl were lying in bed and after she finished her milk, she passed the bottle to Daddy, wiped her mouth with her little handkerchief , turned over and recited her numbers from eleven onwards.

Daddy was caught off guard and I was too, when he told me, because we do not recite the numbers with her all the time. I only do it when I remember, and that's not often so we are pleasantly surprised that she can remember. Okay, I must make a mental note to teach her more things.
