Grade 1

For more than 6 months, Precious went for extra coaching classes and a month before her examination, there were dance class thrice a week. There were days where Precious would tell me she was tired and then there were also days where she would be jumping for joy just knowing that she would be going for her dance class.

Today, she takes her Grade 1 examination.

Daddy took time off from work to see her there. They arrived 2 hours before and Ms Blue and her friends got down to doing their hair.

Wow! Her hair was so nicely done  up. No wonder Ms Blue stressed that the girls should come with their hair down. She commented that when she was a young girl, her teacher did the same and it became a tradition she wants to carry on. :)

Our Precious

Ms Blue, checking on the girls and giving the girls some instructions.

Precious with members in her team. When I saw the picture for the first time, I almost didn't recognise Precious. She looked so different: grown definitely and very pretty. :)

Then at 10 am, they stepped into the examination room.

"Go, Baby! Give your best. Daddy will be waiting for you to finish your routine."

Charcoal

C never fails to impress us especially with her art pieces.

Last week, she told us that she did charcoal painting and she was going on about how there were so many shades. We found out that she had drawn a flower when we picked her up. Her teacher explained what C did in class. This week, she came out from her class with the completed product.

She was very pleased with her art work and we were just... impressed. She had seen the older children doing charcoal pieces and requested to do the same. :)

Creative Writing

One of the things I enjoy doing at the end of the day is looking through Precious' school bag. It's not just because I want to find out what homework she has to complete that evening but rather because I want to be updated on the work that she has done in school. There will be the usual texts and when there is a workbook in there, I know that there is Math homework. Other than that, I secretly wish that I will find her journals and creative writing exercise books, both English and Mandarin.

 And you will know why:

We love to read her entries and even more so, we adore the interesting and lovely pictures she drew. I was particularly impressed with this picture of the puffin. I looked into her study as she was finishing up her work and saw that she was humming to herself and swaying to the beat. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that she had paid attention to details and had coloured the puffin in its exact shades. :)

Nothing is more encouraging than seeing her enjoying her homework.

听写

Weekly 听写 and we are glad that C has no problems. Our initial fear was that the hanyu pinying would be an issue but I guess our fears were unfounded.

Good job! C particularly adores the cute stamp her teacher puts on her assignment. :)

Time well spent

Cheryl has gym every Friday morning and God Gong gong Joe takes her to school. Her class will start at 10 am and end at 11 am.

She will have to take her lunch in the canteen before school starts. But because there is a good few hours before school begins, C will go to the Library.

I saw these in her bag last night:

She had borrowed 2 books from the library. :)

Small achievement

Half way into term 2 of 2012, and I must say Precious is coping well. She does her work every night and will even want to get her homework completed every Friday night after we get back from swim class at 1030pm.

I noticed that Precious has shown marked improvement in her English. She is also able to learn her spelling in speed time and this means only one attempt.

:) This is a little token from Mrs Lim for C's good performance in class with her spelling.

Recycling project 2012

The school embarked on a recycling project this year.

First she had to bring materials to her class and then C returned with art pieces that she had crafted out of these materials.

There was the human portrait she made out of an egg tray and then she also dyed a shirt (which I haven't taken a picture of) and then she returned with these.

C made the hat all by herself, claimed the teacher. The Easter Bunny hat to celebrate Easter Sunday.

Flowers, cut of from cardboard boxes.

She is 7.

We got Precious a cake this evening.

Happy Birthday, Precious. You make life so beautiful. You taught us to be patient and kind and to always check ourselves. You taught us to laugh and to appreciate the finer things in life. You are the sunshine and you make it all worthwhile.

我的家人

Writing in mandarin is definitely not something C does frequently but she has ideas. :)

She deliberated over what to write when she received her assignment over the March holidays.

The other on-going assignment: reading. She has been diligently filling the log after each book she reads. She was most happy when she received many books for her birthday because she said, "Now, I can definitely fill up the entire log." Haha. Well, her filling up her log is really secondary because it's the love for reading and books that we want her to cultivate. :)
