Picture graphs

Cheryl has homework to complete every weekend.

This Friday, I noted that she has began to learn to read picture graphs.

I realized that Cheryl loves Math. :)

to the Istana and Asian Civilisation Museum

It was Deepavali and we decided to make a trip to the Istana.

Happy children posing for pictures!

Changing guards...

The grounds of the Istana. Lovely!

We got our tickets to visit the State Rooms. Unfortunately, there was a no photography rule indoors hence we couldn't take any pictures.

Outdoors and enjoying the flowers.

The children and their (only) tree climbing experience.

Group picture! The rains came after this and we ran for shelter.

After lunch, we headed off to the Asian Civilisation Museum.

We were there to catch the terracotta soldiers but the exhibition had ended its run. But we had a good time looking at the other exhibitions.

We didn't take many pictures though... but the museum was a fantastic place. We learned that admission is free for teachers and school-going children so we will definitely come back. We didn't manage to cover the entire museum though as we were rather tired.

No. 2

This is C's second pair of gloves. She wore the first pair within 6 months and now another and at the same part of the glove too.

Looks like I will have to get her a new pair soon.

Happy Deepavali 2011

Craft from her art in Josiah.

what a day!

From the letter we received from the school, today was one of the many scheduled days that we could get our books and uniforms. So I took child care leave and went with Precious to get them.

She was supposed to be off from school by then but after waiting for 15 minutes and she wasn't out, I was getting anxious. It didn't help that the rain came down suddenly and heavily. I was praying that the queue for cabs would move fast.

After C emerged from the classroom, we took heels and dashed to the taxi stand. The rain was relentless and the roads leading to her school were flooded. With a ticking clock and the downpour, I was just hoping that we could make it in time.

We arrived at 2.45 pm; 15 minutes before the vendors pack up for the day. phew!
The vendors selling uniforms really know what they were doing because the young chap only took a look at Cheryl and gave me this to let her try it on. Size 26! It was a good fit; roomy enough for her to grow into.

We bought 3 sets of uniforms, 2 sets of P.E. attire and 3 pairs of socks.

With less than 5 minutes on the clock, I handed C her book list and instructed her to look for the Aunt at the end of the line. C helped her to locate her name against the name list and C then shouted out to me that she was number 12! Hahaha!

The rest of the aunts got into action and started packing her books immediately.

And they all went into a box.

C trying on her P.E. attire when we got back home.

Next, I got busy tagging all her clothes. From her P.E. attire, to her belts, pinafores, blouses and even her socks. I will do her shoes when we buy them.

Finally, we got down to wrap the books.

C helped too! As she worked, she was humming her favourite songs. Looks like a good start to Primary 1. :)

Brycen is 1!

Our youngest member turns 1!

The little fellow was all smiles. :)

Nothing is more sacred than someone's life, and no words more precious
than words that celebrate someone's life. And so, we say to you:

Everytime we think of you, we thank God,
and pray for you with prayers of joy.
For God began a good work in you,
and will complete that work in years to come.

Our prayer for you now is this:
that your love grow richer
in knowledge and insight of every kind,
that you learn by experience
what really matters,
that on the day you appear before God,
God welcome you as a flawless gift,
a rich harvest of praise,
through Jesus Christ. Amen.

(cf Philippians 1)

May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May the Lord shed his light upon you,
May the Lord look upon you kindly
and give you peace.

Happy Deepavali!

C worked on these for several weeks. The floor art, known as rangoli, is normally drawn on the entrance to the homes. These beautiful motifs are a colorful and wonderful way of welcoming guests for the festive season. C didn't draw her design on the floor but she had it on a board.

The signs...

Couple of weeks ago, C learned about multiplication and slowly but surely, she has moved on to division.

For homework this weekend, she not only had her usual dose of English exercises, she also had some simple division ones to complete.

She found them manageable and completed them on her own. One thing I realized, we have cultivated in her this habit of finishing her homework on Friday night before she does any fun things. Now, Friday and Saturday evenings are special as she sits with Daddy and conquer Final Fantasy together on the Kinect.

14 October

He departed quietly yet the impact he left on the world could not be measured.

His legacy will live on simply because people believe in him and his vision.

He changed the way we communicate, for dropping "Macintosh" and making Apple the hip name that it is.

Cheryl loves my first iPhone. We even named her Estee. When we were in London and the first iPad had yet to be launched, C saw an advertisement there and she turned around to ask if we could get the giant iPhone.

Well, we did when we got back.

Today, we joined millions in the world, in our tribute to honour this brilliant innovator, who was relentless in his pursuit for perfection.

Getting ready

This came in the mail today.

The letter informed us of the class that Precious has been posted to. In it, there were other information like the purchase of books and uniforms and of course a reminder that the Orientation will take place on 19 November.

C was excited as she scanned through the letter.

How time flies? Our Precious will be embarking on another chapter of her life. :)

Gifts from Ms Novelle and Josiah

Cheryl missed Children's Day celebration last Friday as she cane down with fever.

Though she begged and pleaded to go, we kept her in and Daddy took the day off to tend to her. However, she did deliver the food that was prepared for the party.

Today, she was a happy girl as she returned with so many gifts.

These practical gifts were from C's favorite teacher, Ms Novelle and her school. We have a feeling she will miss Ms Novelle terribly come year end.
