Happy Birthday Aunt Margaret!

Aunt Margaret will not be around next weekend, hence we celebrated her birthday earlier.

It was a simple dinner and then we got back home to cake the little cake we got for her.

C loves birthdays and they are the best when she gets to blow out candles.

M.O.S.T.

We visited yet another very interesting place today!

I did a little research and found that we have an extremely peculiar museum in town. In fact, it is reputed to be one of its kind probably around the world and it was all thanks to Mr Mervin, the curator. :)

His interest in these Shanghai toys saw him displaying his collection in this museum.

We were so privileged because I don't think we would ever have a chance to see what we saw. All the toys and dolls on display tell a story and many of these dolls were in fact from the Chinese Revolution Period.

Our girls posing outside the Museum.

Daddy said the television set looked familiar!

The famous San Mao!

Our kiddos played with some of the exhibits. :)

Actually, so did the adults!

I asked C to pose with these huge dolls!

The children were busy looking out for clues and solving puzzles.

Pretty Mummies (and 1 Daddy) caught on film!

After a quick dinner, we headed off for some fun in the waters at Marina Barrage. Needless to say, the children had a whale of a time splashing in the water and getting all of us wet.

This is a great way to beat the heat of the Sun! :)

:)
... till the next time!

Daddy's got a mobile holder!

Father's Day is approaching and C made something for her Darling Daddy.

She showed it to him immediately when he got back and then proceeded to retrieve his mobile from the room and sit it inside.

She was really excited about her piece of work because she was already telling me about it the previous week. She also commented that she had to leave it in school as it was not all completely dried yet. Daddy was beaming when he saw what C had done for him. :)

C's Monkey God!

Cheryl didn't say much about her trip to the Museum with her classmates but she returned with this craft piece.

She did, however, say that she wanted to go again. :)

Mickey in C's bag!

I was looking through to see if C has home work this evening and guess who I saw?

C brought her beloved Mickey to school! *shocked*

Then I recalled an incident which I did when I was in Primary 2. Apparently I replaced all my text books with story books and went to school. Grand Mummy said that she received a call from Aunt Monique who was my guardian then, informing her that my teachers wanted to see my parents.

Hmmm, I seriously have no recollection of my own and this was related to me by Grand Mummy. I didn't scold Precious and just asked her not to do it again. Of course, she sheepishly agreed.

"Happy Birthday, Darryl!"

How time flies?

Darryl is 2 already and Aunt Cathy was very sweet to extend the invitation to us. :)

"Happy Birthday, Darryl!"

we are doing work again... :)

The holidays are approaching and with my marking all done, C and I are now able to resume our evening activities.

I am also able to also dedicate more time to her homework too.

C is writing simple phrases now and I also got her to read these phrases. There is a marked improvement in her handwriting too. She used to write her phrases without spacing them out and Ms May actually got her to read out her work. When she couldn't blend her strange and funny words, she realised the importance of leaving a space between each word. :)

Here is Cheryl doing her reading:

Cheeky Cheryl!

We also did some simple word problem questions. C is able to recognise words like "are", "there" as these words were in the Reading Lists that were given.

exciting programmes lined up...

C will be going for an excursion to the National Museum with her teachers and classmates. This time round, parents are not required to come along so our Spark will be on her own.

It seems that there are interesting things planned for them at the Musuem: there will be a puppet performance, and some hands on activities as well. But we will have to wait for C to tell us what she did there. :)

C expressed interest in the holiday programme that Josiah will be conducting in June so we have signed her up. Here is a little astronaut in the making... . :)

"Happy Birthday, Aunt Di"

We got Aunt Di a small little cake to mark her 27th birthday.

Cheryl was, as usual, overjoyed to see a birthday cake and she was fussy about when she will have her picture taken.

*I forgot to take pictures of the cake before putting on the candles... again.*

Artist?

C was on a roll and she drew so many pictures at one time. She even pasted them up on the wall so that we could admire her masterpieces.

Justify FullI laughed when I saw them because she was even observant enough to put down details like eye lashes. Hehe!

toys we used to play with...

Daddy had to return to his office today but as promised, he made it back to take C to the Children Little Museum.

We had a wonderful time there just browsing at the many exhibits. Though small, the place was packed with things that brought back lots of memories.

Daddy and I remember how we would stand outside a stall that sells little nicknacks like these.

"Cinema on Wheels". Back then (this goes way back before Daddy's and my time) people could catch movies from a mobile cinema like this one and it would cost them $0.05 per movie.

There was also a barber chair on display that came complete with the necessary equipement for hair dressing. Daddy was showing C how to sharpen a razor for shaving. What made this museum fun was the many interactive exhibits.

Some simple yet innovative kampong games were featured too.

A walker on display. Daddy told C that he used to play with such toy soldiers too. And I used to play on a pianica.

Robots on display as well as some origami.

Facade of a school.

Report books. Our report books looked like these too, in English though.

The milk bottle warmer. I didn't know it existed such a long time ago and it was also multi-purpose.

Some of the toys and wheels that children used to play with.

We saw this stool cum high chair and Daddy immediately exclaimed that he had one of this when he was a kid. I tried to put our Precious in there and ... she couldn't fit in it anymore. Ha ha ha! What a waste! But this is a great invention because we can use it as a stool after that.

A drinks stall. Por por used to own an ice shaver like this one when she ran a coffee shop.

C wanted a drink and I was selling her a glass. Haha!

A trishaw. I told C that Por por, Aunt Juliana, Aunt Margaret and I used to ride in this after a trip to the wet market.

It was an eventful trip and Daddy and I were glad we came. It brought back many wonderful and heart warming memories of our childhood and it was great to be able to show Cheryl some of the simple toys we used to play before technology invaded.
