Volcano!

We are into Science recently.

I printed some worksheets related to Science but C has yet to do them I thought this would be a brilliant way to get C interested in it.

These were the materials we used: an empty mineral water bottle. Several boxes of plasticine and a tray to hold everything together.
Then I helped her to give the structure a shape. C, on the other hand, did the plasticine.

Next, she rolled out the plasticine and placed it on the structure.

Then the volcano was done!

We brought the entire tray down. We went to get the "materials" needed for the eruption of the "lava". Some carbonated drink and a few pieces of Mentos Original should do the trick. :) Actually, we did this experiment over two days because I had gotten the wrong type of Mentos and the eruption didn't really happen, much to C's disappointment.

The eruption happened pretty quickly and unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to capture the initial stages of the eruption. C was expecting a huge geyser and I had to explain that we didn't use the "correct" amount of carbonated water so this was a mild eruption hence she was clearly disappointed. However, she quickly added that we could do one more in the future. :)

This was what happened on Tuesday, when we first did the experiment.

C ran away because she was expecting a huge explosion.

Our second attempt and all we got was fizz from the reaction.

That's the spirit! Even Thomas Edison, the genius, didn't succeed in his first attempt to invent the light bulb and it was that "never-say-die" attitude that finally saw him through.

Geodesic shapes!

This evening, C and I did something different.

When C saw these toothpicks and plasticine, she gave me this puzzled look. I told her it was going to be exciting!
I cut the plasticine into small pieces and she had to roll them into tiny balls.

Then the toothpicks. I gave her the instructions and she very carefully stuck the toothpicks into the plasticine.

Then the first piece of work was completed. C was really excited when she saw this 3 dimensional thing take shape.

She wasn't quite ready to go to bed yet so she said she wanted another go at the toothpicks and plasticine and this time, we made a pyramid.

Then she put the pyramid on top of the cube and she got a "house". Ha ha!

when homework is fun!

Our nightly exercises have been going on well and C has also been coming back with homework to complete. Daddy and I are really glad that C has no issues with homework and dutifully completes all her work. There are even days where she will finish them before we got back from work.

It is already Term 4 of the academic year and this is Ms May's report of C's progress in school.
We are pleased to know that C is doing well and enjoying herself in school. She is always talking about her friends and teachers in class and it's sure a sign that she likes school. :)

Cheryl, finishing up her work this evening.

And there after, doing some reading. This is her first pop-up book and she adores it to bits!

working on her maze.

A variety of work to choose from, C decides what she wants to do and when she wants to do them. Some times, she says she wants Chinese, other times, it will be Math, or English or Craft or Maze or Reading. Then there are days where she wants nothing but her Leapfrog.

This evening, she stood at her bookcase and then with her finger to her chin, muttered to herself, "What shall I do?" and then after contemplating for 5 minute, pulled out her activity book of mazes and settled herself down. Yeah, sometimes, I find her so amusing.

Our Spark on her mazes.

She wanted to read her Bob, the Builder book after that. I bought her this book even before she was born! Haha!

Our Singapore Girl

I bought this outfit for C a long time ago.

This evening, I thought she could try it on and pose for some shots. :)

Still a little too big for her petite size. But she was clearly enjoying the dress and the attention I was giving her.

Celebrating in style!

Aunt Jules celebrated her 31st birthday yesterday and Grand Mummy's 57th birthday was coming up. Traditionally, we throw them individual "parties" but since Grand Mummy was going to be away this time round, all of us thought it would be great if we could combine the feasting sessions.

Grand Mummy agreed because it would "cut some fats". Hahaha!

So we met for lunch this afternoon at Zhou's Kitchen.

Daddy and Precious clowning around before lunch.

By the time we were seated, we were like 8 on the hunger scale so we literally went crazy over the menu and ordered like there was no tomorrow.

As we waited eagerly for the food, we took the opportunity to pose for some pretty shots:

And then, the food just came...

and came,

and came

and came

We were all enjoying ourselves, eating merrily and laughing happily!

Cheryl absolutely loved the porridge and the mini egg tarts. Well, of course, she fancied the crispy you tiao and fried chicken too amongst the other food.

Finally, we finished our meal with sweet desserts. :)

After a very fulfilling lunch, we went back to Grand Mummy's place to do some dressing up... .

Grand Mummy wanted to do some decoration works to the flat and we thought it would be a good idea. So after some months of searching and hunting around, we found something that Grand Mummy and Grand Daddy loved. :)

The transformation:

The "After" picture of the wall in the living room:

Grand Mummy and Grand Daddy were all smiles when it was done.

And then to end the evening,

What's a birthday celebration without a birthday cake? It was C who insisted on getting Grand Mummy and Aunt Jules the birthday cake. :)

Really Good!

I blogged about this some time back but seriously, I can't tell you enough how much I love this! How much we all: Daddy, Cheryl and I love it.

We started taking Really Raw Honey last November and we have never felt better.

We take it nightly before we go to bed and it has become kind of a ritual for us. Daddy was on reservist the previous week and on Thursday, he complained of a bad throat. Of course, the most natural thing to do was to give him some honey and :) yes, the sore throat went away so there. This sweet nectar really works!
But wait! I am letting you in on a piece of good news.
You can now order your stash of honey yourself via this website. :) At $75 per bottle of 1.19kg, this is truly a steal because before the days of Vera Oh, I had to dutifully buy my honey from stores for over $100 for a bottle. So, don't wait! :) Make your orders today!

what we did this evening...

Oh, this evening was really eventful!

C suddenly had this urge to want to do so many different activities and she was extremely clear about what she wanted to do. Yes, she had a Plan.

She said she wanted to do her craft work so she took the book from the book shelf and completed 2 activities from there.

So after the Fish and Strawberry, she said she needed to revise her Math because "Ms May said so."

And then after these simple addition, she insisted on working on her English. I had picked out some other English exercises where C would need to pronounce and write out simple words but she wanted to do nothing else but beginning word blends.

"Perhaps Love"

Truly one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

John Denver is a genius and he writes such meaningful and lovely songs and this is definitely one of my all time favourites. ... how long as it been? John Denver may have left us but thankfully he left us with numerous enduring masterpieces.

John in this video clip, dedicated the song to all Mothers, I say, we all need it. :)

"Perhaps Love"
Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home

Perhaps love is like a window
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through

Oh, Love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel

For some a way of living
For some a way to feel

And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they don't know

Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go

And some say love is everything
Some say they don't know

Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

Precious' Plate from Pottery Session!

C finally got her hands on the plate! Remember she went for a pottery session some weeks back? Yeah, Aunt Joan and Uncle Linus picked it up last weekend and passed it to Daddy recently. C was very pleased with her creation.

Needless to say, so are we! :)

Thank you for voting!

We want to say "Thank you!" for voting for us!

Yes! We won!

Prize : $30 vouchers from Chilli Padi Restaurant.
I think we are going to have a great time! :)

feeling patriotic!

When you are young, somehow, songs are sung with more gusto and the same goes for the National Anthem.  will take a video of C doing the National Anthem but this time, it is a video of her doing her patriotic act of reciting a poem about her love for the National Flag.

Quite cute! Hee.

国旗国旗我爱你
有红有白,真美丽丽!

弯弯地月亮,五颗星。

看见国旗行个礼。

BFF!

Zinnia and C went out for lunch at their favourite joint. C was pleading to eat Japanese and I thought it would be brilliant to also take Zinnia out.

BFF!
Cheryl clearly enjoyed the company and of course the food.
