Dora, the Explorer Live!

Thanks to Aunt Shirley, Cheryl and I received complimentary tickets to catch one of Cheryl's many favourite characters live on stage.

Daddy and I decided that C would miss this performance as we had already gotten tickets to watch Barney next Saturday so when Aunt Shirley texted 2 weeks ago about her free tickets, no one was happier than Cheryl.

Cheryl waiting eagerly at the entrance and asking me every 2 seconds if Aunt Shirley and Baby Heidi would be here.

Baby Heidi with Daddy Edwin! She is such a doll!

Cheryl enjoying her sausage while watching the performance. She was very responsive and would call out to Dora and when it came to the songs, she was trying to sing along and at one point, requested to be put on the floor so that she could dance, as Dora asked.

These are some pictures of the performance. Not taken by me though because as you know by now, I have lousy camera skills. My pictures came out all blurry and out of focus. Hee.

What we did during music class today?

Class today was small; there were only 4 of us present and I guess it is because it's the school holidays and many parents have brought their children overseas. Cheryl's favourite boys, Joshua and Aaron weren't there too but she enjoyed herself just as much.

Cheryl was getting a little restless while waiting for the earlier class to finish their lesson so I asked her to take a picture with me.

And when we finally got into the room, we realised the furniture in there had been rearranged and C was kind of wild with excitement seeing the new setting.
She danced and sang in class and also played some instruments. See that little boy in the background? His name is Kai Joon and I am very impressed with this little fellow. He is always attentive during lessons and participates actively in all the activities. Today, I saw him in action; he could play all of the tunes that Teacher Siew Li had taught independently. He did such a great job that he is selected to perform at the year end concert.

Teacher Siew Li told me she is also considering putting Cheryl in for the concert and reminded me to continue to practise with C every evening. She would want to listen to Cheryl play a piece independently too when class resumed in 2 weeks. I had to share the good news with Daddy and immediately texted him!

We are very proud of our Little Spark!

Yeah.. I do feel a little . Of course there were difficult moments and we felt that it was pointless to let her continue her music class as she would not sit still, or that she would be running around. But perseverance is the key to anything!

Questions and Answers

Cheryl has been attending music class for several months now and her progress has been quite steady. Our practice sessions in the evenings last as short as 5 minutes sometimes because she gets restless and she will start to act up; lie on me, pretend to play on my back, or simply her completely relaxes her hands and they will not respond to whatever coaxing, and bribes.

I managed to capture a video of a "good" practice session. This is the song she was playing to.

Finally!! I have been trying to get this video working for days!

Scrapbooking!

While packing some of C's stuff, I found this little piece of work; C's first piece of scrapbooking craft.

The wordings in Chinese read: "Happy Mother's Day". Her teacher in school must have taught her how to do it. :)

Hello Kitty

My little obsession with Hello Kitty has rubbed off on C and she has become quite a fanatic herself. She wanted a Hello Kitty brollie which I firmly told her no as she already has an umbrella at home which she hasn't used.

But she did get her Hello Kitty float.

Anyways, she said that she wanted to do some colouring this evening so after her music session with me, we sat down at the dining table to do this.

She started by looking for the corresponding sticker to the picture that is to be coloured.

Then she followed the colours on the stickers and look for matching colours to put on Hello Kitty.

The almost-completed product...

The final masterpiece... which is not too far off from the sticker.

Date with Aunt Di

The last time Aunt Di and I went out with C in the afternoon was... last December!

It is definitely not surprising since both of us are working and with our very hectic schedule, it is almost Mission Impossible to meet for lunch. Yet this afternoon, we decided that we should bring Cheryl out.

We first had lunch at this wonderful place which serves the healthiest pasta and set lunches!

Starters: creamy corn soup and fresh salad

Aunt Di had scallop with asparagus while mine was bacon with potato.

Whatever work I gave up to bring our Little Spark out... was definitely worth it. Just look at her enjoying herself! I would even give up the world for a priceless moment like this.

And the divine place we ate in: Waraku!

*C and I have hatched a plan to bring Daddy Dearest here for his birthday next month*

Dinner ...

I finally found the time to make a trip to NTUC to get some seaweed as our Precious finished my stash last week.

Immediately after I got back, I got ready her dinner.

With some help, dinner was ready!

Pretty nori cutters and I will try to work on Hello Kitty next! :)

Dora the Explorer...

We wanted to bring C swimming today but the weather didn't seem too promising so we decided to do a little shopping instead and got her her first play house.

Sometime last year, Daddy and I were already contemplating getting her a doll house. But we decided against it as she was too young and would not appreciate it. On top of that, these little adorable parts would go missing soon enough.

This was the set we had originally planned to get.

And when Daddy saw the Dora play house, he immediately got it for her!

The two of them started building the play house the moment they stepped into the house.

Ta ta ta ta...

Cheryl attended music class today as she would not have one lesson in June and since it was the start of the June break, many of her classmates were absent. The small class of only 4 children was very productive as Teacher Siew Li could concentrate on each pupil.

She learned rhythm and rhyme today.

And also revised her notes on the base cleft.

Teacher Siew Li also taught the children some hand signs.

Clowning around with Daddy

I left the car to pick up something and then this evening, while I was downloading some pictures from the camera, I saw these shots!

Our Precious with her Darling Daddy!

This is definitely one of my favourites!

Oh, Daddy was sitting at the rear seats with C and he told her that Mummy would take over the wheel. Our girl immediately retorted, "Mummy can't drive. Mummy can't reach the pedal!" Blah!!! Hahaha! That was Daddy's response to Cheryl when she said she wanted to drive.

For the record, Darling Cheryl, Mummy can drive (but I would drive like a snail because I haven't driven in more than 10 years and I would be a really lousy driver by Daddy's standard.) and Mummy can reach the pedals.

More Steps and Skips!

Today was one of the very rare times where Cheryl was exceptionally attentive during music class. She was singing very loudly and didn't jump or roll around.

She sang "Where is Thumbkin" and Teacher Siew Li had the children put on animals on their fingers to encourage them to sing along.

Like I said, C was very attentive in class today!

She did some exercises in her Activity Book.

And there after, Teacher Siew Li got them to physical demonstrate what skip and step mean.

Oh, this was what I did to her hair today. C has really silky hair and often, the ponytails that I had on for her don't last and mid way through the day, she would be in a mess so I decided to try something new today.

Verdict:
Very good! Hair stayed in place even after her nap!
