Oh what a day!

The Lians went to the movies again!

All thanks to Aunt Chloe who got the tickets for us, 10 of us; Aunt Chloe, Uncle Eugene, Joshua, Aunt Chloe's Mummy, Aunt Xin Xin, Uncle Leslie, Jing Heng and us went for the much talked about Wall E movie.

Like always, I had to constantly explained to C what was happening in the movie as she was afraid at some more intense parts of the show. But she had fun, munching on the popcorn. She remembered the previous time when she caught the movie, Kung Fu Panda with Zinnia and Yeva how they were enjoying the show and popping popcorn!

After the movie, Daddy, Uncle Eugene and I went to Comex as we wanted to get something for Cheryl. Daddy finally bought the little note that he was eyeing some months back for our Precious.

Our Loot:

Cheryl was thrilled to have her own pc and she tried her hands immediately playing the activities on her favourite site.

And right now, all three of us are online; Daddy playing his game, Cheryl on her phonics site and I am blogging!

There is one particular scene in the movie that touched C. It was the one where Wall E found a plant and presented it to Eve.

C told me in the showers that she wanted to grow a plant too so immediately after her bath, we got ourselves some cotton wool, a plastic cup and some green beans and proceeded to place the wet cotton wool into the empty cup and then she put the green beans in. After that, we put the cup at the window where there would be sunlight.

I told her that we would check on her plant in the morning and for the next few days but she was peering over into the cup every few minutes since she left it there. She was rather pleased with herself for the effort.

Snakes and Ladders

This evening, after C had taken her bath, we decided to spend some quality time playing a simple board game, Snakes and Ladders.

Learning to count in school is one thing and to really put it into practice is another. I must say, she did a pretty good job! :)

revision time

A ball game to reiterate the different tempo that we use in music. She got the children to bounce the ball to denote "staccato" and then roll it when she played a piece of soothing music. C also learned about ascending and descending scales.

Cheryl had to play a total of 2 songs today, Alphabet Song and Yankee Doodle and she has to continue to practise the piece that was taught 2 weeks back; Ode to Joy. She knows the first part of the song and now is working on the part that is played on her left hand.

She also did some revision activities on tempo and pitch. I am glad she could still remember some of her notes and she could point out the right ones by listening to what was being played.

staff dinner

C came along for the Staff Dinner and we arrived early as I had some duties to perform.

And she was all dressed up for the theme of "Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous", as a little princess. She was telling me that she was missing a tiara as all princess wear one of these on their heads. Nevertheless, our little Princess had fun posing for the camera when I told her to.

She even helped me lay out the table. These were the lucky draw numbers which my colleagues had to pick out later. She was able to recognise the numbers (from 1 to 30) and nicely placed them in order.

...and then some of the guests arrived.

C took a while to warm up to Ayra. Initially, our Spark was all shy and coy and didn't want to play with her but after every one was seated in the ballroom, Ayra came out and the two little princesses ran around in the empty reception area. C even wanted to follow Ayra into the washroom!

The Charlie's Angels!

C enjoying her food at the table. She loved the duck and Mdm Chao who sat beside C took great care of her while I was running around. Thank you ! And of course, all credit when to our dear, Mrs Hazel Lee for organising such a wonderful spread at Marriott Hotel for us. She is truly a great colleague! :)

Some of the wonderful people I work with!

updates from Miss Sally

This is Miss Sally's report of C's progress in Josiah.

We are glad she is doing well in school and having fun at the same time. :)

little tokens of appreciation

We got these for Cheryl's teachers at Josiah and Teacher Siew Li at Seimpi.

Daddy and I and of course, Cheryl too, would really like to say a big THANK YOU to the teachers who so patiently impart knowledge and teach her useful skills. Cheryl always has nice things to say about her teachers. :)

C has 3 teachers who teach her specifically and one Aunt Yam who helps out during class. But I bought gifts for all the teachers because truly I am very impressed with the staff at Josiah because all of them know all the kids by their names.

And being a teacher myself, I know what hard work it is, especially when they have to deal with toddlers.

So HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY! :)

activities in term 3...

C learned about Mother Nature in this term and she is now able to name parts of a tree. She will point out to Daddy and me the various parts whenever we are in the car.

She also learned about some animals like dogs, cats and bunnies which people keep as pets. Her teachers highlight the characteristics of these animals out to her too and how these adorable pets should be taken care of. She told me that she must shower these animals with love. I guess it is never too young to teach her about compassion. :)
She even made a fluffy bunny!

Oh, C also learned a little about Singapore. Miss Sally introduced her to our national flag and she was able to identify all the flags we see along the roads as our estate was decorated with many of these because of National Day.

Today, she returned home with this:
Nice! A mask for Halloween?

Patterning with marbles.

Josiah @ Jacobs Gardens

Today Cheryl and her classmates went on an outing to the Jacobs Gardens and she was just overjoyed to be out with her pals.

We arrived at the school at 8.20 am and there were many other excited parents with their children in tow. All of us sat in the classroom and waited for instructions from C's teachers. When all the children arrived, it was time to move off.
Of course, Cheryl had to hold her best friend, Regina's hand. It was quite a sight to see these 2 girls whispering to each other and occasionally breaking out in giggles. I wondered what they were saying to each other.

On board the bus, C had wanted to sit with Regina but she was quite happy to find herself sitting behind her pal.

Cheryl with her play mates. That is Regina on her right and on her left, is Radikah. Cheryl kept mentioning "Apika" to Daddy and me and we were wondering who this girl was. It was only this morning that I found out, our Little Spark has been mis-pronouncing Radikah's name wrongly. But Radikah knows that it was her Cheryl was screaming for in the Gardens because she came running after Regina and Cheryl.

The three of them wanted to do things together all the time, it seems.

Cheryl was running around this huge tree and playing Catch with Regina.

Cheryl felt the bark of the tree and she told her teachers that it was rough.

The girls watched the fish in the pond and they were amazed that there were so many of them in that small space.

When C came to the tree house, she completely let her hair down and went for it. The previous time we were here, she didn't dare to climb some of the stairs or come down via the very high slides but this time round, there was no stopping her. Before I could even call out to her, she was already down the slides.
And then after, she looked up the "tube" for Regina. That's Regina's mummy in the background.
Incidentally, she told me that Regina's been talking about Cheryl at home all the time too. Haha and I told her it was the same with C when she was with us.

The children posed for some pictures!

She did seem like she knew what she was doing.

C enjoying water from the dispenser.

After all the running around, climbing and playing, the children had a little break where they had a sausage bun to munch on.

After her little tummy was filled, guess what our Spark did? She ran after pigeons!! and drove it right out to the edge of the pond as you can see.

The teachers were getting the children assembled for some games but it started pouring soon after and we had to run for shelter. There Cheryl sang songs and played some ball games.

Best friends always sit together and what do best friends do when they are supposed to pass the ball? They rolled the ball to each other of course, even though they were seated beside each other.

Cheryl's LoGiC

Cheryl : Mummy, you working tomorrow?
Mummy : Yes, baby. I need to work everyday.
Cheryl : Why?
Mummy : Then Mummy will get paid.
Cheryl : Oh, then Mummy will have money to bring Cheryl shopping.
Mummy : Yes.
Cheryl : And buy Hello Kitty stuff.
Mummy : Yes, and that too.
Cheryl : Then Daddy has a lot of money.
Mummy : (silence) Hmm, why do you say that?
Cheryl : Because Daddy works very late.

Fireworks!

Thanks to Aunt Chloe who called us up just 3 days before the coveted event to inform us that she had some extra tickets so I jumped at the chance to say "YES" and here we were, at the floating gallery where the firworks took place.

The performance was terrific and the night skies lit up to a brilliant combination of red, green and golden colours. The rays danced to the rhythm of the music and burst into continuous explosions when the music reached a crescendo and there was a good mix of classical modern pieces with many familiar Korean ones, much to the delight of the spectators.

The only complaint was it was raining and Daddy and I were even contemplating giving the performance a miss just 2 hours before as it was pouring. But thankfully, the rain reduced to only a slight drizzle and we were able to sit out there in the open to catch the performance. :)
